Devastation in Haiti

I have been receiving a lot of requests since the earthquake in Haiti to contact people with information. However, we still have a son in Port-au-Prince, Haiti that we are working long hours to get out (as well as the other orphans). I look forward to contacting you and sharing information here on what you can do to help. However, at this moment we are working nearly non-stop on advocating and taking care of paper work to get our son home. Once that happens I'll do all I can to contact you. Please feel free to leave your email or questions as a comment and I'll get back to you or answer them when I can.

Continue your prayers for Haiti! And if you would like to pray for our son... His name is Jacques. He is now 17 and legally adopted for almost a year but still had not received a passport or visa. We have been told that we will be receiving a visa for him and he will be flown to somewhere in America where we can connect with him. Unfortunately, what needs to be done by the orphanage directors to get these visas defies all logic! Please keep praying for miracles. We also have a family blog I will try and update as time allows. www.makefunofyourday.blogspot.com

I hope your son is able to come home soon.

Thank you so much for this blog.

When you get a chance could you answer this question for me?

I've been reading that couples with "natural" children cannot adopt from Haiti. Was this your experience?

A good friend of mine has been in the process of adopting a child from Haiti over the last ~year-and-a-half; they where about to bring their son (who just turned one) home when the earthquake hit. They are in Haiti right now, but are having a very hard time making any head-way. I came across your blog and am hoping you might be able to give them some information that can help. If you could find it in your heart to help them, their e-mail address is lwarrenii-at-gmail-dot-com (-at- = '@' -dot- = '.'). God bless!

anon.1~ I can only answer adoption related questions as they were pre-quake. Yes, a family with bio children, like us, can adopt from Haiti but will need a presidential pardon. However, Haitian adoptions will be closed for a long time now. Most or all of the current orphans are being sent to America. If anyone is interested in adopting one of these children please send me your email and I'll try and connect you or keep you posted as I learn more.

Sarah~ Thank You!! We expect him any day now, probably some time this week. We can hardly believe it!!

anon. #2~ Yes, I will contact your friends today. I don't know how much help I'll be to them but can maybe at least pass info on that we are hearing from here. As of now the DHS has promised to have all the children that were int he process of being adopted out of Haiti within the next 9 days! Your friends should be celebrating a grand home coming very soon!!!

Hello, my name is Jessica and I just found your blog. I am SO happy because our family is thinking about adopting at least one child from Haiti and possibly more. We have 3 biological children and have talked about adopting and Haiti feels like the right place. When the quake hit, it got us thinking about it more. We probably won't be able to start the process for about a year due to an upcoming career change and move, but I want to at least get an education on it. I also am a Christian and I am hoping to be able to find out as much as possible from you since you have been through this already. I don't know if you are on Facebook or not, but if so my name is Jessica Payne and I would love to have you as a friend. Or you can email me if you would like, Jes4Jesus@yahoo.com
Thanks and God bless,
Jessica

If you have information regarding any orphans who have been brought to the US but without foster or adoptive parents I would be interested in learning more. My husband and I are interested in adoption but with all that's going on it sounds like adoption is going to become all
the more difficult. Thanks! ~Marcy mossylou@hotmail.com

My husband is in Haiti right now! His group is responsible for getting the 66 orphans released to fly to SLC. Many were left behind. When you have time I'd like you to contact me because my husband and I want to adopt from Haiti as well. He served a mission for the LDS church in Haiti in the late 80's so he's fluent in Creole. He's over there translating and helping the Haitian people. You can find his blog at:

Thank you,
Michelle

Are the children who are current orphans, (being brought to America) available for adoption at this time? What is the contact info for finding out more about them. We are interested in adopting an older child and already have 3 of our own "natural" children. Thanks!! :)
